Competition Rules and Regulations
1. HOW TO ENTER:
- Online registration is available at www.gatoradefreeflowtour.com.
- Entry space is limited (breakdown below).
- Online registration closes the Wednesday before each event.
- Once registration reaches capacity online a stand-by list will be created on site the day of the competition. If an online registrant fails to show between 7:00AM and 8:45 AM their spot will be filled on a first come, first serve basis from the stand-by list.
- All competitors who register online MUST check in on-site the day of the event before 8:45 AM or he or she will forfeit their spot.
2. ENTRY FEE:
- One discipline is $20.
- Two disciplines is $30 (Slopestyle/Superpipe/Rail Jam).
- This does not include a lift ticket. Lift tickets must be purchased at the resort.
3. COMPETITOR CAP:
Each contest discipline will have a cap on the number of competitors who can enter. The breakdown is as follows:- Slopestyle
- Men's Snowboard Open (21 & under male) – 40 competitors
- Women's Snowboard Open (21 & under female) – 10 competitors
- Freeski Open (21 & under male and female) – 50 competitors
- Superpipe
- Men's Snowboard Open (21 & under male) – 30 competitors
- Women's Snowboard Open (21 & under female) – 10 competitors
- Junior Jam Snowboard (13 & under male and female) – 10 competitors
- Freeski Open (21 & under male and female) – 40 competitors
- Junior Jam Freeski (13 & under male and female) – 10 competitors
- Rail Jam
- Junior Jam Snowboard (13 & under male and female) – 15 competitors
- Junior Jam Freeski (13 & under male and female) – 15 competitors
4. ELIGIBILITY:
- The GFFT is open to competitors 21 years of age or younger on the day of the regional event, male or female. All competitors must be of Amateur Status (see below for details). Contest is open to competitors from any country; however Alli will only provide flights to the Finals from airports within the continental USA. The Junior Jam is dedicated to beginner skiers and snowboarders age 13 and under. Competitors 13 and younger who have the ability to compete in the Open Division are encouraged to do so. Competitors can only compete in one age division. Winners of the Junior Jam do not qualify for the GFFT Finals. Employees and immediate family of Alli, Gatorade, Fuse, or any participating partner of the GFFT are not eligible to compete.
5. AMATEUR vs PRO:
- All GFFT competitors must be considered an amateur athlete to participate in the event. As it relates to the GFFT, the following guidelines determine amateur eligibility:
- Any participant, including winners of past GFFT stops are eligible to compete as long as they have maintained an amateur status and meet all other requirements.
- If you have competed in a Dew Tour event and made it past Open Qualifiers into the Prelims or Finals, you are NOT eligible to compete.
- The only exception is if you received a special invitation from the Dew Tour – AS AN AMATEUR – and you maintained your amateur status.
- If one of your sponsors is providing you with money above and beyond that which covers travel expenses and is considered part of your income, you are not eligible to compete
- If you have competed in the professional division of a professional contest in any discipline in the following events* and accepted prize money, you are not eligible to compete in the GFFT:
- X Games
- Burton Global Open Series
- TTR 5 or 6 star event
*Alli reserves the right to add or delete events to this list.
Alli and GFFT Management will confirm an athlete's amateur status prior to each contest and will notify participants if they are not eligible to compete. Alli and GFFT Management reserve the right to further look into an athlete's amateur status following each GFFT event and prior to the GFFT Finals. Alli and GFFT Management reserve the right to disqualify an athlete at any time if they do not meet the guidelines stated above.
6. DIVISIONS:
- Junior Jam
- Open to Boys and Girls 13 and younger
- Designed for the younger beginner/intermediate skiers and snowboarders who are trying to gain experience competing in contests.
- Competitors 13 and younger who have the ability to compete in the Open Division are encouraged to do so. Competitors can only compete in one age division.
- Prizing will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place competitors. Winning Junior Jam does not gain entry to the Gatorade Free Flow Finals.
- Boys and Girls will compete together in the Junior Jam.
- Gatorade Free Flow Open Division
- Competitions are open to male and female competitors that are 21 years old or younger on the day of the contest.
- Designed for intermediate/experienced skiers/snowboarders who are after the challenge of competing against the area's top talent.
- The First Place winner of each Gatorade Free Flow Open Division contests will earn a trip to the Gatorade Free Flow Finals, which will take place during the Winter Dew Tour's Snowbasin stop in February 2012.
- Snowboarding disciplines will have separate competitions for men and women, while the Freeski contests will be open to both.
7. COMPETITION FORMAT:
- Slopestyle
- Men's Snowboard Open and Freeski Open
- Competitors will be randomly grouped into 1 heat.
- Each rider will receive two runs. Best run counts.
- The top 10 overall competitors will advance to the finals.
- Finals will consist of 10 competitors. Each will receive two runs. Best run counts.
- After final heat the top 3 competitors will be awarded prizing.
- Women's Snowboard Open
- Riders will be randomly grouped into 1 heat of 10.
- Each rider will receive two runs. Best run counts.
- The top 3 riders will be awarded prizing.
- Superpipe
- Men's & Women's Snowboard Open and Freeski Open
- Riders will be randomly grouped into 1 heat
- Each rider will receive three runs. Best run counts.
- There is no separate final.
- The top 3 riders will be awarded prizing.
- Junior Jam Snowboard and Freeski Superpipe
- Each competitor will receive two runs. Best run counts.
- The top three scores will be awarded prizing
- Junior Jam Rail Jam
- Snowboard and Freeski Junior Jam
- Snowboarders and Freeskiers will have 30 minutes open jam on the course
- After the 30 min Jam the top three scores for each discipline will be awarded prizing.
8. COMPETITION RULES:
These rules are general guidelines for competing at the GFFT. Rules are subject to change and can vary at each Resort. The GFFT and host Resorts reserve the right to amend the rules if need be. Any changes will be posted at Registration.
- All riders have to check in during on-site registration before 8:45 AM.
- All competitors must have filled out and signed all appropriate paperwork including the liability release to enter. Competitors under the age of 18 must have waivers signed by their parent or legal guardian in order to compete. If a parent or guardian is not present at the time for registration the forms must be notarized.

- All competitors must have a valid lift ticket to compete in the GFFT.
- Competitors must wear helmets and bibs during all GFFT competitions. Helmets must be attached so they do not fall off during a run.
- All riders must attend the riders meeting. The meeting time and location will be posted on-site at registration.
- The start time for each heat will be posted at registration the day of the competition.
- It is the responsibility of the competitor to be at the start gate on time for his/her run. Competitors who are not at the start gate when it is time for his/her run will be scored a 0 for that run. The competitor's other run can still be taken and that will be scored. If both runs are missed, entry fee will be forfeited and no refunds will be given.
- Formats and competition schedule may be altered at anytime due to weather or GFFT management discretion.
- Technical/mechanical timeouts will not be permitted once a rider has started a run.
- No stickers are to be placed anywhere at the resort. Doing so may forfeit your spot in the GFFT with no refund. Stickers are only allowed on personal property.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct including cursing, fighting, or rough play is not permitted at any GFFT event.
- All contestants must respect the direction of the Resort and GFFT staff.
- Pleased respect others and be aware of your surroundings as to avoid collision.
- All competitors are required to inform themselves of the time and place of each event. It is their sole responsibility to be aware of any changes or cancellations.
- Snowboard retention devices shall be used when mandated by the resort.
9. JUDGE SELECTION AND JUDGING CRITERIA:
- The Judging panel will consist of a total of at least three (3) and up to five (5) independent third party judges.
- The scores will be added up and averaged to two decimal points.
- Judging is based on overall impression, which includes:
- Content - the number, difficulty, originality, and variety of tricks successfully performed.
- Aggressive execution of maneuvers performed, exhibiting proficiency.
- Style - the fluid linking of individual tricks (i.e. continuity of line).
- Use of park or pipe.
10. SCORING:
- Range:
- 90 – 100 Excellent
- 80 – 89 Above Average
- 70 – 79 Average
- 60 – 69 Below Average
- 50 – 59 Poor
- 30 – 49 Very Poor
- 0 – 29 No completed Tricks
11. PRIZES
- Prizing (TBD) will be handed out to the top 3 finishers from the GFFT Snowboard Open (Men's and Women's), Freeski Open, and the Junior Jam (Snowboard and Ski). Prizing will be provided by the GFFT partners.
- The 1st place winners from the Winter GFFT Snowboard Open (Men's and Women's) and Freeski Open will receive the following:
- A trip to Snowbasin in Ogden, UT to compete in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals at the third stop of the Winter Dew Tour
- The trip includes: round trip air transportation from an airport near the winner's residence within the United States (airport, itinerary, and carrier to be determined by GFFT) to the Salt Lake City, UT airport.
- Two (2) nights standard occupancy hotel accommodations.
- Transportation to/from airport, hotel, and venue.
- Four (4) meals.
- If competitor is under the age of 18 on the day of departure, a guardian or chaperone will be accommodated in the same terms.
- All athletes must present their insurance card or proof of insurance at athlete registration at the finals. Athletes unable to present valid medical insurance will not be allowed to practice or compete
- The winners of the Gatorade Free Flow Finals win:
- Pre-qualified spot into the prelims at the first stop of the 2012- 2013 Winter Dew Tour.
- Standard double occupancy hotel accommodations during the duration of the event.
- Transportation to/from airport, hotel, and venue.
- Two (2) meals per event day.
- If competitor is under the age of 18 on the day of departure a guardian or chaperone will be accommodated in the same terms.
- All athletes, open qualifier and pre-qualified, must present their insurance card or proof of insurance at athlete registration at their first event. Athletes unable to present valid medical insurance will not be allowed to practice or compete
- All travel must be taken on dates specified by GFFT. No alternate travel dates will be available. If winner is unable to travel on the dates designated by GFFT then the trip prize will be forfeited in its entirety with no compensation being paid in exchange. Therefore, GFFT reserves the right to hand the trip to the runner-up of the event that generated the winner.
- No responsibility is assumed by GFFT for any travel delays or travel cancelations. Any expenses incurred by the winner that are not specifically included in the trip prize description above are the sole responsibility of the winner. Any difference between stated approximate value and actual value of the trip prize will not be awarded.
- No substitution of prize is offered, no transfer of prize to a third party is permitted, and non-cash prizes may not be redeemed for cash value, except as determined by GFFT in its sole discretion. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law. All contestants, as a condition of entry, agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decision of the judges that shall be final and binding.
12. CANCELLATION POLICY:
- Alli and GFFT reserve the right to cancel or reschedule any event due to inclimate weather or poor terrain park/ halfpipe conditions. If all riders get at least one run through the course the contest will become official and athletes will be scored on that one run.
13. REFUND POLICY:
- Pre Event:
- Entry fees will be refunded only to riders with a valid medical reason under the following provisions:
- Entry fees will be refunded if requested two weeks prior to first day of event onsite registration.
- Riders may be required to provide proof of medical excuse and each case will be reviewed.
- All refunds are at the sole discretion of Allisports.
- During Event:
- No refunds will be given for missing the event.
- If an event is cancelled before all athletes have had one run, entry fees will be refunded to competitors.
- Lift tickets are non-refundable in all situations.
14. WINNER NOTIFICATION:
- Prize winners of each contest will be notified the day of competition once the judges have selected the winners. Winners may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Liability Release with (where lawful) a publicity release within seven (7) days of the date first written on the notification letter. If any required documents are not returned within the required number of days, or if mail is returned to Sponsor as undeliverable mail without a forwarding address, the prize may be forfeited. If applicable, allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of trip prize information following completion of notification process.
15. RELEASE OF LIABILITY:
- All winners, by acceptance of a prize, agree to release Alli, Alliance of Action Sports, LLC, Gatorade, NBC Sports Ventures, Inc., MTV Networks, Fuse, LLC, applicable Host Resorts, Sponsors, and Promotional Parties from any and all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize or while preparing for, participating in, and/or travelling to and/or from any prize-related activity or any typographical or other error in these Official Rules or in the announcement or offering of any prize. Sponsor makes no representation or warranty of any kind concerning the appearance, performance or safety of any prize. Winner bears all risk of loss or damage to prize after it has been delivered. Upon request winners must consent (and confirm such consent in writing) to the use of their name, voice, picture, or other likeness for promotional purposes in all media as determined by sponsor without any compensation.
